Fat Happiness
I got a new body wash that I love for two main reasons. 1. It smells like oranges and bamboo. 2. It's called "Touch of Happiness." I mention this because I think that happiness is the KEY to any weight loss venture and having something that tells you it is going to give you a little happy makes it hard to argue. This week I haven not been particularly happy. I've been moody, dark, and stormy. I can't really say why exactly because I'm never really sure but I'm pretty convinced it has to do with being a woman. With all the hormones that run through our bodies it's like mood Russian Roulette sometimes. Every time I open my mouth, you never can tell what might come out...
The reason I'm going all "over share" on you is because this time when I felt dark and stormy it felt a little foreign. It reminded me that over the past couple of months I have been much happier than I've been at any point in my life. They say that when you are getting healthier your mood improves... and by they, I mean scientists that actually test serotonin levels and stuff... and I think they are right for what it's worth.
I know it seems ridiculous but only now, having experienced what it feels like to be consistently happier, do I actually believe that working out does make you feel happier. Now that I am a "believer" I wonder what else "they say" is true....
In doing my research on Spark People, I read an article that recommended all kinds of other good stuff I want to test for truth:
1. Drink More Water
2. Shoot for 3 cardio workouts and 2 resistance training per week
3. Keep a food journal
4. Do exercise you enjoy
5. Have a support system
6. Track your weight
I am going to actively make a concerted effort to improve on all of these things. In fact, I think that number 5 may already have been proven for me. This blog is my support system and the fact that anyone reads it, gives me all that much more encouragement. I don't like talking about this kind of stuff in person but for some reason when I write about it, I feel like I am getting the support I need.
The other part of the support system I think I have solidly in place is my incredible life partner. He's awesome at encouraging me and making me feel gorgeous. He has also agreed to be my "truth meter" when I weigh myself because I cant really see where I come in on my analog scale because my eyes are like that of a 90 year old woman.*
I feel like my blog would be greatly increased for me if I was providing information or techniques that will make me a badass and make anyone who reads this little blog a badass too. I am really going to try to be better about that which includes more recipes (bring on the fall so I can bake!!) and any other workouts, methods, or tidbits I find.
I have only barely scratched the surface of how much awesome one blog can contain without exploding....

Feeling like I should be around the world by now....
*Ben's Grandmother is 93 and we have the same eye doctor for the same condidtion so I was actually serious about having the eyes of a 90 year old woman.

ReplyDeleteThat is really exciting! I want you to know I have been checking in on your post every now and then and I always enjoy reading them. I recently decided to take on my own weight loss adventure/health kick and so far, by really setting my mind to it I am already seeing results. For months and months I tried to eat healthier and I thought I was getting enough workouts each week and then recently I started doing T25. I could NOT for the life of me get below this one certain weight point, it was like I was stuck... And two days ago I got on the scale and there it was! I broke through. Good luck Katie! I am right there with you!
ReplyDeleteRock on Kayla! What is this T25 you speak of??? Is it like p90x? Everyone keeps telling me to try p90x but it terrifies me a little... Congrats on breaking through! Thanks for the encouragement and I hope you'll keep me posted on your progress too!
DeleteT25 is... basically a shorter easier version of p90X. I don't like saying it that way because it is anything but easy. Honestly I tried to do p90X right now I would probably hurt myself just because I am so out of shape. t25 is a program you do 5 days a week for 25 minutes a day, its meant for beginners and people who want to see results fast. Along with that I use the lose it! app and track calories along with shakeology (which is a VERY expensive protein shake) and I replace one meal a day with that, which does actually keep me pretty full until I get to lunch time. 4.5 lbs down in a matter of less than a week. Some of it is water weight I am sure, but I can feel the workouts it in every inch of my body! Look into it, it seems to be working for me! <3
