Teach a Girl to Zumba
I've learned something about myself in the past 2 weeks. I got skills... Mad booty shakin' dance skills. Alexis Wright could be seduced by the dancing that is Zumba....
Zumba really brings out the narcissism me. I think it is because I just look so damn cool doing it... I mean, I really can see how
Hehehe Just kidding. I look like this when I dance... and for the record I do not condone prostitution of any kind. Just to be clear...
I do LOVE to dance though. Regardless of what I look like I love it. And in Zumba it doesn't really matter if you look cool because everyone is looking at the instructor trying to figure out if you're doing the right move. This is kind of a critical aspect of Zumba for me. It is a "monkey see, monkey do" kind of workout so whatever the instructor does, you try to mimic it as best as you can. I have a few moves that I do really well. They mostly consist of turning in a circle. My feet are kind of slow and half the workout is just trying to keep up. No one criticizes you or makes you feel like you should leave your two left feet at home. Everyone is it in together and at the mercy of the instructor.
I've been to 3 classes so far and had 3 different instructors. They all have a different style, pace, and energy. None of the routines are the same while some of the moves are really similar so you can still pick a few of them up enough to commit them to memory. I enjoy doing it and you get out of it what you put in. If you really exaggerate and focus on the muscles you're working the workout is unmatched. The only rule is you can't stop moving. I like that it is cardio and strength training at the same time. I'm excited to go... isn't that what it is all about? Getting a great workout and WANTING to do it? I think I'm onto something....

Yes!!!!! Dancing is an amazing workout and I am always trying to convince women to TRY it!! So many are scared to look stupid, but I have never been to a class where everyone wasn't completely supportive and non-judgmental. Also look up Lauren Fitz on YouTube, she does Zumba/hip-hop and they are so fun!! And do NOT get discouraged because women's bodies can fluctuate 2 pounds easily just because of hormones/bloating! So proud of you, keep up the good work, girl! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Holly!!! I will definitely check out Lauren Fitz. It is much easier to motivate myself to dance than work out. Thanks also for the word of encouragement... it is definitely something I needed to hear!
