Bacon Wrapped Salmon

I know. I write a "fitness" blog and title a post "Bacon Wrapped Salmon." How is that even remotely helpful? It isn't. How is that relevant? I am a sucker for bacon and I am trying to lose weight. In this battle between bacon and chub-rolls who is going to win out? Seriously? Like you have to ask. Of course it is the bacon.  Without bacon I wouldn't even have these chub-rolls to blog about so really, I owe bacon a great deal of thanks....

Please pardon my extremely flawed philosophy above. I'm a little drunk on love and I can't help it. I had an amazing day. I write to you tonight from the beautiful city of Austin, Texas. I'm here on business and yesterday was a very long travel day that ended with me meeting the pillow of the Omni hotel and nothing else. Today, however, was the opposite. Today was a long day that left me itching for more.

This is my very first trip to Texas and my very first trip to the southwest. For a foodie and music kid like me this city is a dream. I hear the Mexican fare is authentic and amazing and I hear the BBQ is not to be missed. Sadly I can't tell you if the hype is all it is cracked up to be because I had bacon wrapped salmon instead. 7 of us went to Green Pastures and had an amazing lunch. All the good choices I made on my Atlanta trip went right out the window because I got completely immersed in the meal. The wine was fantastic (all 3 different kinds). The Brie soup was ridiculous. The salmon wrapped in bacon was to die for (and too much of it would actually make your arteries explode). And yes, the desert was pretty incredible too. They really should put a sign on the door that says "Please leave your will power at the door." After the incredible lunch I met a Peacock friend but didn't see his albino brother that is said to live on the grounds.

I also took a "tour of scotches."  I'm not so sure that aligns with a fitness blog either but it was a really cool experience. Each scotch was from a different region of Scotland and were all single malt. I learned about how they were each made and what the traits of each scotch from the different regions are.

I am happy to report that I did begin the day with a good workout and am going to bed right now to ensure I get up and do it again tomorrow before another long travel day.
