If the Workout is a Rockin'.....
Last night I finally got over myself and worked out at home. I copied all the exercises from the 30 day shred and worked out with my music on. It wasn't bad. I feel the soreness today that tells me I pushed myself and I am going to do it again tonight. I did find that I need to tailor my playlist to fit the rhythm of the exercises though because the music has a significant effect on my workout threshold level. If the song is more uptempo I am more uptempo. If it falls off into a ballad halfway through the song (IE Rumor Has It by Adele) I fall off. I was doing "butt kicks" (PS my favorite) after doing lunges (ps NOT my favorite) and it came to the part in the song when she breaks it down and it gets really slow. My feet followed the song and I was no longer kicking my own butt. It is liek my body is taking cues from the music. I think that is really a thing...
The other difficulty is not having the visual cues to move on to another exercise so I need to create some audible ones. "Made up Mind" by Tedeschi Trucks Band is perfect to start the workout. I am so in love with this song right now and it gets my blood pumping. Follow that with "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thick (I know I should be too cool for this song but my God is it catchy) for the jumping jacks portion and we are on a roll. A little Jason Mraz for the ab section then right back into some Kings of Leon's Family Tree and I feel like I'm killing it. I already shared the Adele fiasco for the butt kicks so tonight I want to go through and update the playlist so every song is timed for each section and matches the rhythm. I have a few selections for the cool down but I'm still working those out.
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. A playlist can make or break a workout. Seeing how I used to be a DJ extraordinaire, I think I should be able to handle this. Maybe this is my calling...

So true about music being an incredibly powerful motivator! Some of my faves: Cochise by Audioslave, Remember the Name by Fort Minor, One More by Superchick, Gotta Get Thru This by Daniel Bedingfield, and my "guilty pleasure" is anything by Kesha. I can't sit and listen to it but for some reason I love to work out to it.
ReplyDeleteI will have to check those out! I think my workout self is a sucker for catchy pop... I heard Moves like Jagger and I think I might have to add that too. I wouldn't sit and listen to that either but for some reason the game changes when sweat is involved....
