The Girl Who Loved Stephen King
I had a very excellent morning. Ben had to be up early too so rolling out of bed at 6a was so much easier! I tried my hand at interval training today. I did my usual walking route but instead of just power walking, I alternated running and walking between phone poles. I was incredibly exhausted afterward but it felt great. I figured that running for a whole route is not something I can sustain but using the phone poles makes it easy to motivate myself because it is a short distance then I get a little recovery time.
I did this while beginning to "read" (I listen to audio books religiously because I can't sit still long enough to actually read a whole book) The Girl Who Love Tom Gordon. I find that it makes the workout less painful because I focus on the story instead of how my body feels. I just finished Stephen King's newest novel Joyland, so I'm going back in the archive and I have to say that I really love his writing style and everything seems so familiar because of his Maine roots. Joyland was great and I think it is the perfect book to kick off any summer. My hope is that The Girl Who Love Tom Gordon will keep the theme going.
I think the other benefit of audio books for workouts is that if the book is really good, it makes me want to read more so I'll find ways to fit other workouts in throughout the day so I can indulge in the story. I think that Stephen King has a big enough library between his novels and short stories that I should be occupied for a while.
That's it for now because I have a busy evening but I look forward to finishing up the 12 day work schedule I am on so I can focus on some culinary creativity and share some amazing recipes I find/create.

I have to say, interval training ROCKS! It's the only way I can 'run', and you can officially say you're a runner if you do intervals, it's not cheating! :D And it's actually REALLY good for your heart, your metabolism and it's a lot better for your cardio in general than just straight running. So you go girl! Rock out to those audio books with that interval training. And if you ever want some music, Motion Traxx has some great free downloadable stuff that is searchable by BPMs so you can exercise to a specific pace.
