The 80's

Holy busy girl Bat Man! Friday hasn't even begun yet and already I have put in almost 50 hours at work this week. Next week I'll go back to my "normal" schedule but I am feeling pretty damned accomplished this week. Needless to say (while intentions were good) I didn't make it up to Nancy's house (or the gym) to Zumba this week. On Tuesday my day literally consisted of getting up at 5:30a getting to work by 6:30a working till 8:30p, home by 9p, one episode of Dexter, sleep until 5:30a Wednesday then back to work by 6:30a. Sure, I could have worked out for the hour I watched Dexter but I didn't. Frankly I needed to zone out for a bit and mental health is just as important as physical health.

It sounds like I am making a whole bunch of excuses huh? Well I'm not! I ate like a champ this week with salads and Odwalla bars, fruit and greek yogurt. I rocked the food bitch this week. I did treat myself to some bad food Tuesday night as I worked through a long ass day but I could afford the calories thanks to going light early in the day and I am extremely excited to announce that I hit the 80's! I haven't seen the 80's in too long and it feels good. Being out of the 90's is very encouraging.

I am still excited about my food plan I talked about the other day and I intend to give up bread next week.

Until then I thought it would be great to enjoy some other things 80's that will bring warmth to the heart. Feast your eyes on the fabulous display of culture below:

When I reread it this morning it kind of floored me because all of the things I wrote in that post were a foreshadowing of what was to come and back then I couldn't have possibly recognized it for the storm it truly was.  I worked hard over the 3 years that I kept "Trouble with the Curvy" but the things that made it hard to stick to a healthy routine of good habits were left completely unaddressed. A Good Man

I have come to learn from doing this blog that I don't do stress well. When I'm stressed I'm not myself and I'm pretty miserable to be around. Yesterday, with a research paper staring me down, I let myself get worked up and stress got the better of me. On my last day of a wonderful 3 day weekend, I was... well... a shrew. I don't think I'm alone though. I think we all have our moments that we look back on and feel a deep shame for being so absolutely ridiculous. Certainly sometimes it is warranted but, for me, when I get like that I'm usually being pretty absurd.... like "How come you're not reading my mind and just do what I think you should be doing?!" I should also note that I'm one of those people that when I'm all pissy I can't help but slam things around. Anything I touch, I touch with force. If it Weren't for Those Meddling Carbs...

If I am not writing, I am probably busy eating something that would make Shaggy and Scooby jealous... Not writing makes it easier to ignore that I am not living up to a commitment that I've made to myself. Writing reminds me how often I have taught others how to treat me by how I treat myself. Writing exposes me to exactly how uncomfortable I am when I am vulnerable. Vulnerability is why I eat like cartoon characters and pretend I won't gain weight like a human being.  I am certain that I am not unique in this dance with vulnerability. The world is a briar patch full of thorny shit and long ago we humans learned how to armor up to protect ourselves from being stuck around every corner.
