Back to Reality
Vacation is officially over. What a depressing way to start my first post in 13 days huh? Its ok though because vacation may be over but this is a short week and it looks more and more like the weekend is going to be amazing. Weekends are a lot like mini vacations at the end of every week. See what I did there? I turned depressing into amazing. My specialty...
So many adventures have crossed my path since the last time I put some thoughts to digital paper. I went on the best road trip with Ben and I know we really dig each other because we didn't even fight after being stuck in a car together for a total of about 30 hours. A good 12-14 of those hours were consecutive... I think that is the real measure of whether a relationship is going to work out or not. Can you stick two people in a car together for hours on end and if they still like each other at the end, they can find a way to make anything work. At least that's what I like to think.
The Stephen Kellogg Family BBQ was friggin' awesome. Sharing it with Hillary and Ben was simply perfect. Hillary gets the music the way that I do and that is rare I've found. We had such a great time and made some incredible memories with her. I wish I could see her more often and share long talks over walks or coffee or hangout to listen to a new record together. I could write an entire entry just about our shenanigans at the BBQ but from a fitness blog perspective, the amount of alcohol I consumed over the weekend couldn't have been very good for my efforts not to revert back to Chubtown. So, instead, I'll tell you about the parts that helped me work off the booze.
Sunday we spent the day with our favorite Henderson! Not the Henry kind but the Rick kind. We miss him being all the way down in DC because we always find a decent adventure when Rick is around. He gave us the DC tour showing off the Capital, a BBQ/music festival, the Air and Space museum, the Lincoln Monument, the White House, the reflection pool, WWII Memorial, the Botanical Gardens, and a kickball tournament all in the span of about 7 hours. It was awesome. Walking around DC in the heat will help you burn some booze off for sure.
This trip really helped me feel renewed. I really wanted to spend a day going through all my recent photos and putting together a portfolio of my favorite work but I just didn't get to it. It was too nice to be in front of a screen. I'll find time for that sometime but right now it feels good to be back in my rhythm. I had two good challenging walks today and ate some veggies. My system didn't recognize them....
The good news is that I didn't gain weight over vacation. In fact, I just went back to look at the weigh-in from my last entry and as it turns out, I lost weight. I f!@#$%ing lost weight on vacation. That is about the opposite of closing the blog with depression. In the words of the eternally Happy Pharrell "Clap along if you feel like Happiness is a truth!"
